A Little Taste of Spain: Spanish Rice

Paella is one of the most famous Spanish foods, however many people don’t know that the word “Paella” actually refers to the pan in which the rice is cooked. This is a traditional Paella recipe, cooked in the thermal cooker for a quicker, healthier version that is just as delicious and a dish you are sure to cook often.

  1. I have made both the standard recipe and the low carb version, but there is a lot more liquid leftover in the low carb version. I don’t want to stir it all in, but it tastes so good. What can I use it for? I might reduce the amount of water added next time, so there’s less liquid left.

  2. Made this tonight as a side to serve with the middle eastern chicken drumsticks. I omitted the chicken. I also used arborio because it’s what I had and skipped the saffron because I didn’t have any and it was delicious. Next time I’ll try it with the saffron and finish it off in a pan so I can get that nice paella crust!

  3. Well the Spanish Rice was a HUGE HIT in this house last night. One kid ate 3 bowls! And wanted more but there wasn’t any left 🤣. I promised them I will make it again tomorrow night. Thanks 🙏🏻 Nik! Another hit!!

  4. Loved this recipe – so quick and easy and so tasty. No complaints from the men folk. Nik you are a genius

  5. Wow this dish is so scrumptious and easy to make. Love the depth of flavour. It’s a meal all by itself, if you’re greedy like hubby and I lol!! Thanks Nik and Team xx

  6. Wonderful! I used corn instead of peas (boyfriend has some weird pea aversion!) and probably double the amount of chorizo and chicken breast.

I don’t recommend using Aldi chorizo unless you like the flavour/spice…next time I’ll stick to buying from Woolies!

  7. This is a definite five star meal in our house, loved by hubby and my two young sons. Will be a staple in our house from now on. I love how simple and tasty it is. Thanks for another fantastic recipe.

  8. The first meal made from ALTOS and I am not surprised that we all loved it. This has to be my new favourite skinnymixers meal. I used chicken breast and riviana arborio rice and it turned out perfectly!
My husband and toddler managed to work their way through huge portions!
And I didnt have to buy any other ingredients! Already had the spices that I needed.

  9. Wow. We have eaten the Spanish rice 3 times this week for dinner.
And not once has there been a crumb of leftovers. I add a little more chicken thigh to ours and it’s sensational. The book purchase is well worth it for this recipe alone.

  10. Nic and her amazing team have developed an absolute gem with this one. This dish looks, smells and tastes absolutely stunning. I increased the chicken to make it more of a meal and will be making this very regularly … a great fit for any occasion

  11. Enjoyed making and consuming this recipe. I may reduce the amount of smoked paprika as the very fresh spice I used was pretty dominant. Will add more chicken next time to make it more of a meal. Unfortunately I did manage to really burn the bottom of the thermie…maybe a little bit of rice was stuck after I put the rice in the basket? Made and served with paprika chicken which wasn’t a hit-have commented separately under paprika chicken recipe.

  12. I made this last night for dinner, it was amazing! I used chicken breast and increased it to 400g. Thanks so much for this super easy and delicious recipe xx

  13. Absolutely delicious! Made this for my family while on holiday and it was devoured in minutes. Will definitely be making it again.

  14. Wow! Absolutely delicious. Even my 2 year old loved it. Full of flavour but not spicy. I added a smidge more chicken. We will add this to our regular meal list.
