laksa paste

This is an authentic Malaysian laksa paste, which means that it packs a hot punch! If you prefer your laksa on the mild side, reduce the dried chillies to 5 and encourage guests to use a homemade samba oelek to taste.

  1. 5 stars
This is an amazing recipe, used with the accompanying recipe in the ALToA book! I am not sure why it has taken me this long to make this recipe, as I have had the book since presale, but I will NEVER be without this paste in my freezer stash for a quick and delicious meal, from now on! AMAZING flavour! Just writing this review, I am getting hungry and planning to have the leftovers as soon as I press submit!

  2. Hi. In the book ALTOA, the recipe calls for 15 whole dried chillies but I cannot source whole dried chillies where I leave (remote NSW). If I can ony find chopped dried chillies, what would be the conversion amount? Thanks.

    1. Chilli flakes are much hotter than the deseeded whole dried chillies. I would recommend buying fresh chillies and roasting them to get the flavour instead 🙂

  3. I’m highly allergic to nuts! Can I still make this? What would I sub In for the macadamia nuts?

  4. We love this laksa paste, I often sub out the macadamias for cashews as we always have them in the cupboard. The teenager loves the Curry Mee Laksa and will often grab a portion of the paste out of the freezer and make it himself)(high praise indeed)
