Skinnymixer’s Chilli Garlic Prawns (Spicy Marinara Style) features in the Fast section of the cookbook SkinnyMediterranean.
Meet your new weeknight hero: Chilli Garlic Prawns (Spicy Marinara Style). This recipe is from SkinnyMediterranean, and though it’s technically a “cookbook-exclusive,” it deserves to live loudly. It’s bold, speedy and full of flavour — prawns simmered in a spicy tomato-garlic sauce.
The Chilli Garlic Prawns (Spicy Marinara Style) is a cookbook exclusive recipe…
The perfect easy, no-fuss dinner with prawns cooked in a spicy marinara style sauce. This is perfect for the nights that you don’t feel like cooking. It is a simple but tasty sauce using some pantry staples with a little garlic, wine and prawns.
I designed it for nights when you don’t feel like “cooking” but still want something impressive. You’ll see from the nutrition panel: high in protein (27 g per serving) — prawns deliver lean protein without heaviness.
This one’s flexible, too. Serve it warm over pasta, rice or grains, or cool it down and enjoy it chilled as a salad or light lunch. It holds up beautifully in the fridge, and if you’ve cooked extra, it reheats without losing texture.
Although it leans Italian in style, the ingredients here — olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, parsley, chilli — sit squarely within the Mediterranean way of eating. It’s real food, vibrant and balanced, built for flavour, not frills.
Why You’ll Love It
- High in protein — prawns give you a lean protein boost without heaviness
- Fast but flavourful — total time is around 23 minutes (5 min prep + 18 min cook)
- Versatile serving — warm or cold, depending on your mood
- Fridge and reheats well — perfect for leftovers or batch cooking
- Mediterranean staples — garlic, tomato, olive oil, fresh herbs

Bloody loved this. We used the cheap frozen raw prawns, I did need to add an extra 2min cook time at the end as some of my prawns weren’t cooked, but that is cause they were still partially.frozen when they went in. – Jess G.

Budget Seafood Marinara. I already did the prawns the other week and the kids and I absolutely loved them!! Lil dude said it would be better with “all the seafood”…… so with hubby away again tonight, I had to try it!!I used thawed “frozen store bought “ seafood and cooked for 8mins. It was perfect!!! I normally would cook each different seafood in a pan (in order of cook times) when I do seafood marinara, but I chucked it all in the TM and hoped for the best – Amanda E.
- We had this tonight! So simple, quick and delicious! I made prawn version for the guys and chicken for me! Yum!! – Jodi H.
- Everyone loved this but my mother-in-law found it a bit too spicy, which was easily fixed by stirring through some cream in her bowl. – Sian B

FAQs
Can I freeze this dish?
You can — but only freeze the cooked prawns and sauce (not if mixed with delicate pasta). Ideally prawns aren’t the best to freeze cooked and reheat. Thaw overnight in fridge and warm gently.
Will the prawns get rubbery?
If overcooked, yes — cook only until just opaque, then remove from heat and let the sauce finish up.
Is this gluten free?
Yes — prawns and this sauce contain no gluten. Just use gluten-free pasta or serve with rice.
Can I make it less spicy?
Absolutely. Reduce or omit the chilli flakes. The base flavours still shine.
Does it fit the Mediterranean diet?
Yes. It features lean seafood, olive oil, tomatoes, herbs and moderate spices — all cornerstones of healthy Mediterranean eating.
