Why SkinnyMediterranean Is One of Our Healthiest Cookbooks Yet

Sharing is caring!

This book is my love letter to the Mediterranean lifestyle with a number of recipes fitting in the Mediterranean way of eating / Mediterranean diet

Lighter, healthier versions of classics, but with all the heart and soul that makes them so comforting.

I’d like to start out by saying that I am not a qualified nutritionist. I’m simply a mum, qualified chef, cookbook author and food blogger who has been developing recipes for the Thermomix for over a decade.

Being Pontian Greek, a lot of these recipes come straight from my family. Passed down through generations, but I’ve adapted them for how we cook and live today. I’ve always heard that the Mediterranean way of eating is one of the healthiest in the world  (you can read more about it on the Dieticians Australia website here). SkinnyMediterranean was created with that in mind combined with my love of travel in the region.

A number of years ago I travelled extensively around Greece, Italy, France and Spain researching my ‘A Little Taste of’ Book Series. This is where I fell further in love with the Mediterranean way of eating.

This cookbook is packed with fresh, balanced recipes inspired by the food cultures of Greece, Italy, France, Morocco and the Middle East. You’ll find plates built around vegetables, legumes, olive oil, seafood, whole grains, herbs and a little bit of good-quality dairy.

It’s the kind of food that feels good to eat – light, full of flavour and satisfying without being complicated.

Everyday Mediterranean

Most of the recipes in SkinnyMediterranean fit beautifully within the Mediterranean diet or ‘way of eating’ framework. These include:

  • Vibrant salads and mezze that make vegetables the star of the table.

  • Seafood and lean chicken dishes rich in protein and heart-healthy fats.

  • Grain and legume meals like Mujadara, Cauliflower Tabouli and Greek Garlic Chicken with Quinoa that are high in fibre and full of plant goodness.

  • Naturally balanced sauces, marinades and dressings built around olive oil, herbs and lemon instead of heavy cream or processed ingredients.

These are meals that support long-term heart health, digestion, energy and even mood — without feeling like “diet food.”

A Little Balance Is Key

Of course, no cookbook is complete without a few indulgent moments. You’ll also find recipes like Olive Oil Citrus Cake, Galaktoboureko and Easy Tiramisu — lighter takes on traditional desserts that celebrate the joy of food and family.

Even these recipes reflect the Mediterranean philosophy of moderation and pleasure: simple ingredients, smaller portions, and made to share.

We have also put the Skinnymixers Spin on some classic recipes from the regions that don’t fit within the Mediterranean way of eating – including Confit Artisan Bread, Baked Pumpkin Gnocchi with Four Cheese Sauce, Pastina, Pasta al Forno, One Pot White Bolognese, Skinnymixers Spritz, Spanish Hot Chocolate & Lemon Prosecco Sorbetto.

A Way of Eating You Can Enjoy for Life

More than a cookbook, SkinnyMediterranean is an introduction to a lifestyle that’s been proven to support health and happiness. You’ll discover how easy it is to fill your week with meals that are nourishing, colourful and satisfying — the kind of food that helps you feel good, not guilty.

If you’ve been wanting to eat better without giving up flavour, this is the perfect place to start. I know that my vegetable and legume fibre intake has definitely increased since developing these recipes.
