Ingredients

  • 1.7 kg deboned leg of lamb - trimmed of excess fat
  • 120 g brown onion - peeled and halved
  • 5 garlic cloves - peeled
  • 1 tbsp mild paprika
  • 1 tbsp of fresh oregano leaves
  • 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary leaves
  • 4 strips of lemon rind
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 2 tsp dried dried oregano leaves
  • 1 tsp dried mint leaves
  • 1 tsp dried basil leaves
  • 1/2 tsp black cracked pepper

Instructions

  • Please note, this recipe needs to be prepared in advance
  • Add onion, garlic, paprika, fresh herbs, lemon rind, dried spices, salt and pepper to mixer bowl with 50 g water. Blend for 30 sec/speed 8/MC on.
  • Rub marinade mixture into leg of lamb and refrigerate overnight to marinate.
  • Brown lamb well in a medium to high heat non-stick pan, without any oil.
  • When lamb is browned, remove to slow cooker bowl.
  • If there are any yummy herbs and spices left behind in the pan, add 1/2 cup of water, 1 tsp of vegetable stock concentrate and scrape up any herbs and spices left behind. Add to slow cooker bowl.
  • Cook for 7 hours on low temperature.

Notes

Serve with extra lemon juice and the liquid from the slow cooker bowl - this is the best gravy you'll ever taste! For a beautiful summer meal, serve with home made tzatziki and a greek salad.
A 1.7 kg or 60 oz roast will yield 17 serves of lamb on HCG Protocol.
I didn't use oil to brown the lamb, but if you want to you can!

slow cooked greek lamb thermomix recipe

  1. This recipe is awesome. My whole family love and it is HCG compliant for when you are on P2. It makes awesome salads the following days or amazing sandwiches.

  2. It’s been hard to choose a favourite but I really do love the heck out of this recipe. I love it in wraps immediately after being cooked – but holy heck – eating it the next day on a pizza with marinated feta. THE. BOMB. COM.

  3. Gosh we love this recipe (3yr old twins and hubby).
We eat it with salad and tzatiki and then on your wraps the next day.

  4. Absolutely delish, as per all your other recipes! I only had fresh herbs and subbed those for the dried ones and it worked perfectly. We are lucky enough to have a wood fire pizza oven and I cooked it in that for 7 hours on low heat. AMAZING! Thanks again Nik. Another winner! X

  5. Marinade was awesome however the lamb was on the dry side I turned it off after 6 hours . I think I will try it in the oven next time

  6. OMG Nikalene, I made this once before and we thought it was ok, didn’t have time to marinade it for too long of course, last minute dot com in this house. Well I had to ensure I had dinner for hubby as I was out all day yesterday – I put the marinade on the lamb at 7pm, put it into the fridge on Saturday evening, put it into slow cooker on Sunday morning at 7am and left the house. When I returned hubby had picked out something else for his dinner but had tried the lamb a little bit too many tries I think, thought there would be none left for dinner today LOL. Well, my lunch on P2 today was of course the lamb, I can totally understand why he kept picking at it, it is absolutely divine – thank you.

  7. This was absolutely delicious. Slow cooker died so covered baking tray with foil and cooked in oven 120 – 100 deg Celsius for approx 5 hours. Was very tender. Served with tzatziki, Greek salad and roast sweet potato.

  8. Just made the slow cooked Greek lamb with Quirky’s leek & cauliflower mash (no cream or oil to be P2 compliant) it was soo yum! Hung scoffed it down can’t wait for leftovers lunch tomorrow!

  9. This was delicious!! I used a whole shoulder instead of a boned out leg and it was moist, tender & fell apart! We teamed it with the Skinny Mixers wraps of the Recipe Community (which were amazing), a Greek salad and homemade Tzatziki. Fantastic meal!! Thank you 🙂

  10. Do you think this recipe would work with chicken? This meat would be perfect for yiros but I don’t need eat beef.

  11. Delicious! The meat is lovely and tender and s beautiful flavour. We had it with mashed potato and veggies. Will definitely be making again and again.

  12. I made this for the first time and it WONT be the last, made with bone in, I didnt brown and by the end of cooking, the meat was tender and fell right off the bone. I kept the juices and sauce as a yummy side and also used to add some extra flavour to my morning scrambled eggs, thanks Nikalene xx

  13. Bit confused. (Not the worlds most knowedgeable cook) The deboned lamb from my butcher is chopped up already. Is this what is used in this receipe? Or is a whole piece cooked? is cooking time reduced if chopped already?

    1. I think that what Nik meant was that you’d have a single piece of meat. I’m sure you could still cook, it would just take a whole lot less time to cook, is all. How did you go with it?

  14. Can you make it in Thermomix without slow cooker? Like have the heat very low etc? I dont have a slow cooker.

  15. Ahhhhhmazing! Made this on the weekend and had it with the Skinnymixer pita breads and Skinnymixer creamy garlic sauce. Hit with the whole family. Thank you!

  16. Made this last night and it was so beautiful and tender. My other half was very impressed with this. We tried it with salad and in a wrap, and with sweet potato puree and with blanched beans, and it was fantastic either way. Thanks Nikalene.

  17. This is the most yummiest meal and has become a family favourite. Last time I cooked it son invited his girl friends mum to join us telling her how good it was. Did not let us down.

  18. Absolutely delicious yet again. I could smell this marinade on my hands last night when going to bed (despite scrubbing them!) and then all day in the slow cooker. It didn’t disappoint!! So grateful for all your efforts Nik. You’re amazing.

  19. Love love this recipe. Lamb goes on special often so I love it for having visitors .. No stress as it just sits in the slow cooker.. I usually cook it as a leg so the bone adds to the glamour.. Shred the neat and put it back in the “juice” on warm in the slow cooker ready for guests.. Amazing with the pita breads

    1. I love your take on this recipe! How long do you cook it bone in for before shedding the meat? Do you have a specific time that you’d like the shredded meat in the slow cooker before you’re serving it?
Thanks for your help! Cooking meat with the bone in adds so much flavor, I’m planning to do this for Tuesday night so I’d love to hear your times. Thanks!
