Sharing is caring!

A few weeks ago Grant made these Candied Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Nuts & they have been an absolute HIT with everyone who has tried them.

We’ve had a few Skinnymixer’s looking for the recipe to make as Christmas Gifts for their family, friends or even dare I say… Santa. So we thought it was the perfect recipe to end our 10 nights of SkinnyChristmas

The recipe was developed to use with Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon, however you can use your bourbon of choice. If you would rather skip the bourbon, you can substitute with 1-2 Tbsp water.

Ingredients

  • 60 g Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey - or whiskey that is 45% alcohol per volume or less
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil - optional
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp mixed spice
  • 1 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 75 g pecan
  • 75 g macadamia
  • 75 g almonds
  • 75 g cashews

Instructions

  • Caution: It is recommended to cook single batches of this recipe. Increasing the quantity of alcohol or using high percentage alcohol may increase the risk of fire or damage. Avoid cooking near direct flame or in gas ovens. Avoid baking paper overhang or touching elements.
  • Preheat BBQ, Smoker or oven to 170℃ or 338℉.
  • Add Buffalo Trace, oil, sugar, mixed spice and salt to a bowl. Mix thoroughly until sugar dissolves.
  • Combine mixed nuts in the bowl making sure they are all covered.
  • Lay out on a baking tray or tray lined with baking paper.
  • Place tray in your preferred cooker and cook for 10-15 min - stirring every 5 min to ensure even coverage. Watch carefully and reduce the temperature if your oven runs hot. The sugar should start to caramelise and bubble. Be careful not to let them burn! If you are using a smoker - Maple or Cherry wood is delicious!
  • Allow to cool and serve with a neat glass of Buffalo Trace of course!
  • Store in an airtight jar, they should keep for up to 2-3 weeks depending on weather and humidity.
