skinnymixer's Rustic Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd’s Pie is a true winter classic… A great way to create a budget friendly, veggie filled meal in the Thermomix that is both delicious and comforting.

I opted to use low carb potatoes in mine, but you could easily substitute them with sweet potato or alternatively this popular mashed cauliflower recipe. To make this a complete meal, you can steam vegetables from step 5 if you wish, and you can also opt to make it dairy free or top with grated cheese too! Enjoy.

Love Nik xx

  1. Awesome! Made this today with cauliflower mash & topped with cheese. I had 1kg of mince to use up so I repeated steps 4 & 5, with an extra splash of water for the second 500gms of mince, then added all the gravy to the mixture. Worked perfectly… very delicious & super easy to make. Thanks Nik!

  2. This is my always GO-TO recipe now. I make this as meals for others – and they all rave not only how delicious it is, but how homely and comforting too! I have only made it with onion and bacon – and will never omit!! It’s the best!! So thank you x

  3. Very yummy, great flavours! I added extra mince, mushroom and celery to bulk it out for our large family & it was perfect. Will be making again. Thanks Nik for a great, simple, & yummy family recipe. 😃

  4. This is the third time making this dish, which is now a family favourite. Tonight served with parsnip mash, no peas, but steamed greens on the side. Delish. Thank you Nikalene.

  5. Didn’t change a thing except for a bit of grated cheese on top before baking! Congratulations on a fantastic shepherds pie recipe. I found the vege sauce thickened up perfectly by the time the potatoes cooked so I added all of it to the mince. Was a bit sceptical about leaving the peel on the potato however it was delicious. The other half loved it too. Big thumbs up

  6. Have made this dish twice and everyone loves it.

I forgot to buy cream for the mash but substituted sour cream, and the taste was amazing. Best mash ever. I also used about 600 grams potato.

  7. Amazing! And so easy. We all loved it! My husband doesn’t like a lot that I make with the Thermomix but devoured this & requested it again tonight!

  8. Absolutely delicious! I used 600g mince, and in the baking dish added a grated zucchini, a heap of sliced mushrooms and extra carrot. Then used all the sauce, and topped with 600g mashed potato. Now we’ve got half left for dinner tomorrow night…winning!!

  9. Delicious! Made with lamb, and done about 50/50 peas and diced mushrooms.
P.S. Tell Michael he is amazing, fried onion and bacon in the mash is out of this world!!

  10. The whole family loved this meal & that’s saying something. It’s always a winner when I can get away with cooking 1 meal with no alternates or adjustments.

  11. I have added mushrooms, an extra carrot, a green capsicum. Hopefully there is enough room in the bowl for the meat !! Have made this before and it’s a great recipe. Perfect for a cold winters day with kids sports practice. Can prep early and bakeater! Thanks Nik!!

  12. Yum, this was so good! One of the best shepards pies I have made. The flavour of the mashed potatoes mixed with the left over gravy from the mince mix was superb. Thumbs up from the kids and I 😊

  13. Has anyone doubled the mince (just the mince)? I found even though I used 500g mince (that I minced in TM prior to making this) it didn’t go very far. It only made 4 ramekins and I am a family of 5 🙁 yes I dipped out.

    1. I used 700g of mince (by mistake, I just opened the package of mince I thought had 500g in it!) and it worked really well! We are a family of 5 and it fed us well. I used most of the gravy in it and it was beautiful and saucy.

  14. Oh wow,, the best mash ever.. there was very nearly not enough to put on the pie after “taste testing” it!!

Another super tasty, super easy recipe 🙂

    Thanks

  15. I’m not surprised that this was amazing! Big hit in our house, my daughter wanted in her lunch at school and said she would eat it cold, but unfortunately Dad took it to work:)
