Instructions

Notes

Serve with extra lemon juice and the liquid from the slow cooker bowl - this is the best gravy you'll ever taste! For a beautiful summer meal, serve with home made tzatziki and a greek salad.
A 1.7 kg or 60 oz roast will yield 17 serves of lamb on HCG Protocol.
I didn't use oil to brown the lamb, but if you want to you can!

slow cooked greek lamb thermomix recipe

  1. Is there a variation for fodmap with this recipe? My husband can’t have garlic or onion and not sure what to substitute for it. Usually is garlic infused oil.

  2. 5 stars
I made this with lamb shanks- most amazing flavours. I’m going to do it with lamb mince tomorrow, and just cook in a fry pan for pizzas

  3. 5 stars
I’m from Uk and can I just say a huge thank you. I’m currently cooking the lamb and it smells amazing and looking it too. Can’t wait to have it for my tea tonight.
Highly recommend this recipe it won’t let you down.

  4. A family favourite, has been cooked the last few easters. Kids love it in the pita bread on the site with the tzatzaki..

  5. 5 stars
My 15 year old son would likely eat this entire meal to himself in 1 sitting. If I’m lucky enough to have some, I use leftovers in the Pita, and it’s as heavenly as ever! I’m about to make it again for the 186538th time, total family favourite!

  6. Sooo good! I’ve made this for guests a few times & they are always super impressed. I like to serve mine with Greek salad , roast potatoes & tzatziki. Then if there’s any leftovers it gets used up in wraps or on top of homemade pizzas’s. Oh and FYI this makes the BEST gravy!!

      1. You sure can slow cook in the oven. Have the oven on about 150 degrees and cook for about 6 – 7 hours in a tray covered with foil. 🙂

  7. I don’t have a slow cooker and i usually slow cook 2kg of lamb shoulder in my le creuset casserole in the oven. How long would you recommend slow roasting the lamb in the oven please? (I’m a terrible cook!)

  8. Wow made this last night to serve with salad on a hot summer night and it was delicious! Didn’t marinade overnight as it was a last minute decision to cook and one hour in the pressure cooker it was done to perfection

  9. Wow. Ok. Didn’t marinade overnight, and cooked with suggested marinade in slow cooker for 4 hrs( bone in)! Fantastic meal, great flavours. Walking into the house to those aromas. Brilliant. So how good will this be when I plan better and do it as suggested with recipe. Happy place. Thankyou

  10. So I said to my family. ” this should have marinated overnight and cooked slowly for 7 hours. “. Quick marinade with amazing flavours , slow cooker on high and 5 hours later an amazingly great result.. Can’t wait to do it as per recipe. Great feed

  11. I made this the other night for a quick easy meal to serve to guests. It was so much of a hit that the guests are bringinh around another leg of lamb so that I can make another one for them. Has a beautiful flavour,

  12. Made this for the first time tonight and it was amazing! My 3yr old (who we can rarely get to eat any type of meat) demolished it which speaks volumes! Thank you for the great recipe.

  13. Made this last night using two 1.5kg bone in roasts. I cooked them for 7 hours. Turned out great. Held together like a roast (which is what I wanted). Would cook another hour I think for fall off the bone and use in wraps. Will make again, Fussy brother enjoyed it (and he’s a massive lamb fan!)

  14. I have just made this for the 1st time & it was a winner!! Marinade was easy to make from staple ingredients & pleased my fussy family. This will be on my regular menu. Thank you Nikalene!

  15. This is the second time making this dish and while we remembered enjoying it last time, tonight it was to die for. I had a 3kg bone in shoulder that wouldn’t fit in my slow cooker so followed all the steps but placed in an oven baking tray, covered with foil, 6 hours @150C. Absolutely melt in your mouth lamb and gorgeous flavor.

  16. Amazing flavours meat was so tender and juicy. I served this with skinnymixers sweet potato mash will give the pita wraps a go for tomorrow’s dinner using the left over lamb.

  17. The ‘best gravy ever’ comment is no exaggeration. Definitely top three anyway!

My lamb was a little dry in some parts when I pulled it out of the slow cooker (possibly because I left it in for about 2 hours longer than suggested) but the gravy well & truly covered my mistake. Mmmmmmm

Will be making again… and again… and again

  18. This is only lamb that my 16yr old daughter will eat. She can’t stand the smell, or taste…but this has now been made by me 3 times, and every time, she goes out of her way to pile it on her plate. Yes, she knows it’s lamb. Definitely a stand out here… I cook mine in the oven 100°C, for 5-5.5hrs, covered in foil. Beautiful!! Thank you Nik

  19. By far the best roast lamb I have cooked. Marinade was super easy to make, with regular ingredients. The meat just fell straight off the bone. I added corn flour to thicken the juices at the bottom of the slow cooker to make a beautiful gravy. So so flavoursome. Well done again skinny mixers! 😘

  20. Wow, this recipe is a winner! I used deboned and rolled lamb shoulder and cooked this for Christmas Day lunch…hands down everyone’s favourite, no one could fault it. Looking forward to cooking it again and again.

  21. I made this yesterday and it was wonderful. I then left the bones in the slowcooker with the liquid and added more water to cover the bones and let it cook for another 12 hours and now have a beautiful lamb bone broth. Thanks for another great recipe 🙂

  22. This recipe is awesome. My whole family love and it is HCG compliant for when you are on P2. It makes awesome salads the following days or amazing sandwiches.

  23. It’s been hard to choose a favourite but I really do love the heck out of this recipe. I love it in wraps immediately after being cooked – but holy heck – eating it the next day on a pizza with marinated feta. THE. BOMB. COM.

  24. Gosh we love this recipe (3yr old twins and hubby).
We eat it with salad and tzatiki and then on your wraps the next day.

  25. Absolutely delish, as per all your other recipes! I only had fresh herbs and subbed those for the dried ones and it worked perfectly. We are lucky enough to have a wood fire pizza oven and I cooked it in that for 7 hours on low heat. AMAZING! Thanks again Nik. Another winner! X

  26. Marinade was awesome however the lamb was on the dry side I turned it off after 6 hours . I think I will try it in the oven next time

  27. OMG Nikalene, I made this once before and we thought it was ok, didn’t have time to marinade it for too long of course, last minute dot com in this house. Well I had to ensure I had dinner for hubby as I was out all day yesterday – I put the marinade on the lamb at 7pm, put it into the fridge on Saturday evening, put it into slow cooker on Sunday morning at 7am and left the house. When I returned hubby had picked out something else for his dinner but had tried the lamb a little bit too many tries I think, thought there would be none left for dinner today LOL. Well, my lunch on P2 today was of course the lamb, I can totally understand why he kept picking at it, it is absolutely divine – thank you.

  28. This was absolutely delicious. Slow cooker died so covered baking tray with foil and cooked in oven 120 – 100 deg Celsius for approx 5 hours. Was very tender. Served with tzatziki, Greek salad and roast sweet potato.

  29. Just made the slow cooked Greek lamb with Quirky’s leek & cauliflower mash (no cream or oil to be P2 compliant) it was soo yum! Hung scoffed it down can’t wait for leftovers lunch tomorrow!

  30. This was delicious!! I used a whole shoulder instead of a boned out leg and it was moist, tender & fell apart! We teamed it with the Skinny Mixers wraps of the Recipe Community (which were amazing), a Greek salad and homemade Tzatziki. Fantastic meal!! Thank you 🙂

  31. Do you think this recipe would work with chicken? This meat would be perfect for yiros but I don’t need eat beef.

  32. Delicious! The meat is lovely and tender and s beautiful flavour. We had it with mashed potato and veggies. Will definitely be making again and again.

  33. I made this for the first time and it WONT be the last, made with bone in, I didnt brown and by the end of cooking, the meat was tender and fell right off the bone. I kept the juices and sauce as a yummy side and also used to add some extra flavour to my morning scrambled eggs, thanks Nikalene xx

  34. Bit confused. (Not the worlds most knowedgeable cook) The deboned lamb from my butcher is chopped up already. Is this what is used in this receipe? Or is a whole piece cooked? is cooking time reduced if chopped already?

    1. I think that what Nik meant was that you’d have a single piece of meat. I’m sure you could still cook, it would just take a whole lot less time to cook, is all. How did you go with it?

  35. Can you make it in Thermomix without slow cooker? Like have the heat very low etc? I dont have a slow cooker.

  36. Ahhhhhmazing! Made this on the weekend and had it with the Skinnymixer pita breads and Skinnymixer creamy garlic sauce. Hit with the whole family. Thank you!

  37. Made this last night and it was so beautiful and tender. My other half was very impressed with this. We tried it with salad and in a wrap, and with sweet potato puree and with blanched beans, and it was fantastic either way. Thanks Nikalene.

  38. This is the most yummiest meal and has become a family favourite. Last time I cooked it son invited his girl friends mum to join us telling her how good it was. Did not let us down.

  39. Absolutely delicious yet again. I could smell this marinade on my hands last night when going to bed (despite scrubbing them!) and then all day in the slow cooker. It didn’t disappoint!! So grateful for all your efforts Nik. You’re amazing.

  40. Love love this recipe. Lamb goes on special often so I love it for having visitors .. No stress as it just sits in the slow cooker.. I usually cook it as a leg so the bone adds to the glamour.. Shred the neat and put it back in the “juice” on warm in the slow cooker ready for guests.. Amazing with the pita breads

    1. I love your take on this recipe! How long do you cook it bone in for before shedding the meat? Do you have a specific time that you’d like the shredded meat in the slow cooker before you’re serving it?
Thanks for your help! Cooking meat with the bone in adds so much flavor, I’m planning to do this for Tuesday night so I’d love to hear your times. Thanks!

  41. Cooked this for friends last night and everyone loved it! The gravy was absolutely delicious, and I had hardly any leftovers as we all had seconds.

I’ll definitely be cooking it again.

  42. Well I removed the net, marinated over 2 nights & this was devine. Thank you Nikalene, my first lamb dish in over 22years.. My new HCG tastebuds & your recipes are in heaven.

    Your a genious xx

  43. I see Nik is a bit busy ATM with her book release. Hoping someond can help me here?? Would it be ok to keep the Lamb marinating for 2 nights? And mine is in a net-do i cook in the net or remove it?? Thanks lovelies x

  44. Made this a few times now. It’s delicious. I freeze in individual portions and use while doing HCG protocol.

  45. Yum! I have made this a few times now. Even tastes great when only marinated for an hour or so rather than overnight. I usually serve it with some Greek dips, salad and pita bread.

  46. AMAZING! Cooked this with the bone in and it teased me all day with it’s delicious aroma. My whole family loved it, my 2 yr old daughter had three serves of the meat!
Thank you so much for this recipe 🙂

  47. This was loved by the whole family tonight. We skipped the garlic and I just added extra of all the spices. I dont have a slowcooker so used the pressure cooker. I only put it together to marinate this morning then at 4.30pm put it in the pressure cooker for 2 hours. I could have used the dutch oven and slow cooked it all afternoon but wanted it to marinate it as long as possible.

  48. Just marinated this for the first time, I subbed beef topside as I am not a lamb fan, the marinate smells awesome, can’t wait. Thanks Nik, you rock my kitchen
    x

  49. So a friend of mine passed this recipe onto me and it was successful to say the least!!!!!
I turned it into a stew with orzo pasta and green beans and it rivalled his Greek grandmothers! We won’t be telling her this..!
    My husband’s comment……..you’ve nailed this!!!

  50. I bought a leg of lamb with a bone in it. deboned it and trimmed all the fat off the lamb. I couldn’t get dry mint leaves so put in more Rosemary and oregano. The rub smelt amazing and I was salivating while it was cooking away. I used my Breville Flavour Maker and cooked it for 9 hours (hubby was late from work) on low. When I turned it off the meat fell apart but it was a bit dry (plenty of liquid in the slow cooker though). I suspect my slowcooker is a bit too hot even on low as the meat can be a bit dry if it’s not submerged. The flavour was also a bit muted, I’m not sure if this was because of my slowcooker.

  51. I’ve got two 1.5kgish legs, will I have to cook longer in slow cooker or will seven hours be good?

  52. Made this the other week and was soo tasty! I’m not a massive fan of lamb, but this was so good I ate the leftovers for the next few days! So easy to do as well! Thanks for your great recipes Nikalene. 🙂

  53. I made this last night with Nik`s Broccoli Salad and baked sweet potatoes.
I only had fresh herbs not dried and it was AMAZING !!
Tonight I am having it in pita bread with salad, hommus and tzatziki … can`t wait !

  54. Finally had this tonight and it was sensational!! I didn’t marinate it overnight as I only just decided to have it today. I also cooked it on high for 4 hours as I was late getting it ready and it was still amazing! Thanks again!!

  55. Omg, my fussy kids both cleaned their plates and asked me if I could cook it again tomorrow. Shame it takes 2 days to do

  56. Hi Nickalene,
Love the sound of this recipe! I have the lamb ready to marinate tomorrow. I don’t have any dried basil or mint, but have both fresh in the garden. Is it OK to substitute fresh instead? Thanks!

  57. Made this on Monday with a deboned Lamb Shoulder. Completely forgot to marinate overnight but was still bursting with flavour. We had it on Nik’s Pita Wraps with Tzatziki & greek salad. I only cooked how many Pitas we need and put the rest of the dough in the freezer. The next day I rolled the rest of the dough into a giant pizza base to make a delicious Greek Lamb Pizza with the leftovers.

  58. I cooked this yesterday for tonight’s dinner after work. Absolutely beautiful. We all loved it, including the kids. I’ll be making this again & again!

  59. Arrrghhh! .. Wish I had have known about this before I just googled for a thermomix/yiros recipe for the 1kg of lamb I had in the fridge and got it marinating!
    Ahh well, next time.

  60. I couldnt get a boneless shoulder. Will it still work with bone-in lamb? Normally I would just get my partner to debone it but he is away and I would probably stab myself!

      1. Just debone yourself – its easy and it doesn’t have to be pretty like on master chef – still tastes the same!

      2. Comments above have others saying they’ve cooked with bone in but I can’t find anyone saying how much longer they cooked it for. How did you go? I bet it was great! Cooking with the bone in adds so much flavor!

  61. so delicious!

I couldn’t wait the 7 hours in slow cooker though… so I did 3 hours in the pressure cookers, and WOW, absolutely AMAZING!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  62. OMG! This is amazeballs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made it on P2 with lean leg – which in itself is freaking gorgeous. The only problem is only having one portion! As someone else said – eat all your vege and salad first.
Can’t wait to do it as a slow cooked oven roasted fatty shoulder when I’m on P4 😀

  63. OMG. Made the slow cooked Greek lamb today with Pita bread, garlic sauce, hummus and salads. YUM!!! Even the extremely fussy kids loved it. Thank you Nikalene!!!!

  64. this looks amazing, mmmm will be having that as soon as i can source some pastured lamb, and sooo many serves, bonus
