Tips & Dietary Needs

  • Protein swap – Feel free to change up the chicken and bacon in this recipe.
  • No Chicken Stock Concentrate? We highly recommend making Niks Chicken Stock Concentrate for best results! Vegetable stock concentrate will work. You can also replace the water with liquid stock.
  • Don’t like broccoli – Try baby spinach
  • Boost the protein – Add extra cooked chicken before serving.
  • Dairy-free – We recommend Flora Plant Based cream for these kinds of recipes.
  • Gluten-free – You can cook the sauce only version or cook the pasta to the time on the packet.
  • Low carb / Paleo – Make the sauce only and serve over zoodles.
  • Lower calorie – Halve bacon. Use low-fat cream and replace Parmesan with 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast.
  • Go veggie – Use vegetable stock concentrate. Replace chicken with mushrooms. Replace bacon with crumbled tempeh, pan-fried in olive oil, garlic and smoked paprika.
  • Low Fodmap – Use gluten-free pasta. Omit garlic and garlic powder. Replace onion with 1–2 spring onions (green part only) and onion powder with dried chives. Use lactose-free cream and compliant stock concentrate. Use garlic infused olive oil.

How to Cook

  1. Grate cheese.
  2. Chop garlic and onion.
  3. Sauté with bacon or pan-fry for extra flavour.
  4. Heat sauce to cook pasta and chicken in.
  5. Cook pasta and chicken.
  6. Cook broccoli.
  7. Stir through cheese.

How to Serve

  • Toppings – Plenty of cracked black pepper and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Storage & Meal Prep

  • Fridge – Store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Make ahead – freeze cooked for up to three months.

From the Testing Team

  • Ten B – Gluten-free – I had it first for lunch then reheated for dinner. Flavours great but on reheating the pasta was complete mush. I’ll definitely make again but stick to cooking and storing the pasta separately.
  • Rhonda R – We have already established that you’re a genius, but what the heck??! I went to make this so many times during testing and have only just gotten around to it. I did add a few handfuls of chopped baby spinach into the thermoserver with the parmesan as I am so mindful of eating more veg, but otherwise followed this to the T. Simple ingredients, absoLUTELY flavour packed and the only regret I have is not defrosting enough chicken to make a double batch. Incredible *chef’s kiss.
  • Angie G – Creamy chicken, bacon & broccoli pasta from freezer stash, defrosted and reheated well in the microwave and tasted yummy 😋 Hubby had for lunch today, sorry no pic as he eat it before I had a chance to take a photo.
  • Krisha G – We did the dairy free using cocconut cream and nutritional yeast for the cheese. It was delicious 😋. I would not normally pick a dietary option! I’d make it again like this!

THMD4: Creamy Chicken, Bacon & Broccoli Pasta

I adore the flavours of creamy chicken, bacon and broccoli in pasta. This one pot pasta dish is perfect for a busy weeknight and will quickly be added to the regular dinner rotation. I like to pan-fry my bacon for extra flavour and sprinkle a little on top when serving!

FAQs

Can I hide the broccoli in this recipe?
The broccoli adds texture, flavour and freshness to this pasta. You could stir through some of the Hidden Vegetable Booster from Dinners 3 for some hidden vegetables.

Can I change the pasta?
You can change the pasta, however you may find the absorption rate differs and it could be drier or more soupy. Try making the sauce only and serving with pasta of choice cooked separately. If using Protein pasta, we recommend cooking separately.
