People are always asking for a vanilla bean powder recipe… I felt like it was such a simple thing that I never rushed to blog it, but my friends have been nagging me for about 6 months to do it. The quality of your vanilla bean powder is naturally highly dependent on the quality of your beans. Skinnymixers recommends Vanilla&Co beans, not just because we have an affiliate relationship with them – but their beans really are the best. They are super moist, fat and high quality. Take a look for yourself and definitely support an awesome small Australian business!
- minimum of 12 high quality vanilla beans
- Put your vanilla beans on a baking dish and bake in a 100°C or 212°F fan forced oven for 1 hour or until dried out. Alternatively, you can use the dehydrator or put in the freezer for 3 days.
- Allow to cool completely, then break into chunks.
- Put into your mixer bowl, mill for 1-2 min/speed 9/MC on.
- Store in an airtight container.
Hi, Is this meant to be 100 or 112 for fan forced? Not 212 for fan forced?!
Ah, just for C verses F, apologies
Does Vanilla&Co offer a discount code to Skinnymixers?
Thx :O)
Hi, no promo code sorry. Vanilla has become super hard to get with some large storms that wiped out complete crops. We do have an affiliate link vanilla.skinnymixers.com x
I am so disappointed, I put 17 beans on a baking tray in the oven on 100 degrees Celsius as per the directions and they burned after 10 minutes!!! I cannot believe it what did I do wrong? Now I have just wasted 17 beans and I am devastated 🙁 Can anyone help please?
Hi – this may be a silly question but – do the beans need to be scraped out of the pod before baking?
No leave as whole beans
Hi everyone have bought some beans. I could smell them through the package.
Just bought a food deydrator. What Temperature and how long would it take to dry.
GratitudePaul
Anyone use the freezer method? My oven is too unreliable. Were you successful? Do you bring the beans back to room temp before milling? Should they be in an air tight container in the freezer? Or left open?
How did freezer method go…..?? Did you mill while frozen or room temp?
Thanks
how do we know they are completely dried out? I’m scared i’ll risk burning them and i don’t want to waste them
How many beans would I need if I wanted to end up with just 1 tbsp of vanilla powder for the chai latte mix?
I used about 12 and it filled the small 50g Mocconna coffee jar about 1/2 way if that helps. It’s very concentrated so only use no more than 1/2 what recipes ask for. Once you use it you will wonder why you have never done it before ☺️
Made to to the vanilla chai latte! Perfect!
So great! Instead of washing the bowl after, I made a vanilla custard to make use of the vanilla “scraps.” Very yum!
Which vanilla custard recipe did you use please?
Everyone note! The beans stay soft until they are cooled 🙂 thanks Nik, I used 14 beans and ended up with a good amount of powder 🙂
👌🏻
Hi, how many grams approx did you get with 14 beans?
Thank you for the recipe. After milling the vanilla and not wanting to waste any of this powder, I immediately cooked your latest recipe, “quinoa breakfast” it smells and tastes delicious!
