My Mum's Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks

Sharing is caring!

Skinnymixer’s My Mum’s Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks features in the FAMILY FAVOURITES section of the cookbook The Healthy Mix Dinners 3

The My Mum’s Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks is a cookbook exclusive recipe…

I adore that My Mum’s Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks made it into our Dinners 3 book.

We didn’t get to eat this recipe growing up, because with 6 kids on a tight budget lamb shanks absolutely weren’t on the menu.
Now that Mum and Dad are enjoying retirement, she regularly texts me photos of her delicious shanks that she makes for dad.

This recipe was created with love and it shines through with every mouthful.
These Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks can be prepared in the Thermomix and transferred to a slow cooker or oven to be slow cooked.

We also have a lamb shank meat variation to use the TM6 & TM7 slow cook function.

Thank you mum for sharing the recipe with our Skinnymixers Community in this cookbook xx

Freezer Prep Meal Plan Info – How to Make as a Dump Bag

This recipe features in the Freezer Prep Meal Plan located in the presale bonus located in the ‘Meal Plan Collection’ download and has a matching print-at-home label.

To make as a ‘dump bag’ we follow the Slow Cooker method for the recipe and do the following.

  1. Follow the recipe – this is already a slow cooker recipe.
  2. Sauté the onion and capsicum – Cook the recipe and chill the onion mixture after Step 2
  3. Make the sauce – make the sauce before adding into the dump bag with the raw meat.
  4. Attach label to a large snaplock bag or desired container. The labels are print-at-home and are 6 labels to an A4 page.
  5. Combine sauce, cooled onion mixture and raw meat in a large snaplock bag or desired container. Try to remove as much air as possible to avoid freezer burn & Freeze your ‘dump bag’. You can choose to also freeze your carrot in the bag, celery will go a bit soggy when frozen raw.
  6. DEFROST TO USE: It is best to defrost the day before in the fridge as you don’t want to add frozen food to the slow cooker.
  7. Add any remaining vegetables to slow cooker if you didn’t freeze them. “Dump” the contents of the freezer bag into the slow cooker and cook for 8-10 hr on low.
  8. With 15 min to go, add cornflour mixture if desired.

Please note – this is for use with a slow cooker and not the TM6 slow cooker function. To use the slow cooker function in the Thermomix, you need the recipe to be specifically created with a maximum 800g of meat and a minimum amount of liquid.

We double the recipe for recipes that will potentially dry out in a large slow cooker, if you don’t want to double the recipe and have a smaller slow cooker then you are welcome to use your best judgement and not double.
