Skinnymixer’s Sticky Sweet & Sour Pork features in the Takeaway section of the cookbook Dinners 4.
The Sticky Sweet & Sour Pork is a cookbook exclusive recipe…
Sticky Sweet & Sour Pork is one of those takeaway classics that always seems like a good idea… until you see the price and realise it’s mostly deep-fried batter. This version is a lot lighter and far better value. I like using budget cuts of pork and baking the pieces in the oven instead of deep frying them. You still get that sticky, glossy sweet and sour sauce, but without all the oil.
It’s one of those dinners that proves you don’t need takeaway to get that same flavour hit at home. The pork stays tender, the sauce is perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy, and the whole dish comes together with simple ingredients. Once you try it this way, it’s hard to go back to the takeaway version.
This Sticky Sweet & Sour Pork made it into Dinners 4 as the People’s Choice recipe and I’m so glad it did!

From the Testing Team
- Tara Leader – OMG! This dish is absolutely incredible. I used Pork Scotch Fillet which is super affordable. As Nik says this makes the HUGEST family meal and it’s really really filling. The Sweet & Sour Sauce is spot on. The veg still had a little crunch which is exactly how I like it. The pork was cooked to perfection and soooo tender and it is as good as – no it’s actually better than the takeaway deep fried version. Y’all just got to drop everything and try it.

- Anonymous – I really dislike sweet and sour pork. I’m not sure why but I’ve never been a fan. I actually wasn’t even going to test this recipe at all. My husband loves it and he’s cooked it before for himself and the kids. I could never eat it as it’s always been gross. Like even the cooked pineapple right, like the whole debate regarding pineapple and pizza, to me pineapple doesn’t belong cooked. It was ducking delicious!!! What the?? I have done everything to the recipe, even cooked the forbidden pineapple and I absolutely loved it all. The previous times I’ve had the recipe sweet and sour it’s never tasted like this before so I am astounded that I am liking it. Like my mind is blown.
Glad he can’t see this comment cause I’ll never admit defeat. Haha.

FAQs
I don’t eat pork, can I use a different meat?
Yes! This recipe will work with chicken thigh or chicken breast.
I bought pineapple in syrup, can I still use it?
Yes! It does have a higher sugar content. The sauce is still delicious, but tastes less like pineapple and has a little spice from the ginger shining through.
