I’ve recently developed a fondness for cooking with prawns. Not only are they fast to cook, high in protein and lower in calories…but if I buy raw prawn meat I don’t have to cut up any meat for a fast dinner! If you love Chinese Honey Chicken or Honey Prawns, you will love this super easy stir-fry. I prefer to cook this one hot and fast in the wok for best results!

Tips & Dietary Needs

  • Protein swap – We have a chicken variation in the cookbook.
  • Gluten-free – Use gluten-free sauces.
  • Low carb – Replace honey with compliant liquid sweetener. Replace cornflour mixture with ½ tsp xanthan gum sprinkled in. Replace snow peas with green beans.
  • Lower calorie – 
  • Paleo – Replace rice wine vinegar with apple cider vinegar. Replace cornflour mixture with ½ tsp xanthan gum sprinkled in. Replace snow peas with green beans.
  • Go veggie – Replace prawns with tofu seasoned with a little soy sauce. Pan-fry separately before adding to the stir-fry.
  • Low Fodmap – Omit garlic and use garlic infused olive oil. Replace snow peas with green beans or bok choy. Use green part only of spring onion. Replace honey with maple syrup.
  • Spice Level – This is very mild, but you can add some chilli.

How to Cook

  1. Mince garlic and stir fry in oil.
  2. Add prawns, vegetables and remaining ingredients except cornflour.
  3. Cook and add cornflour mixture near the end to thicken the sauce and make it glossy.

How to Serve

  • Serve with rice, cauliflower rice or noodles.

Storage & Meal Prep

  • Fridge – Store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
  • Freezer – We don’t recommend freezing dishes with cooked prawns in them as the texture isn’t great when reheating.

  • Amanda E – Absolutely delish. Unbelievably easy, with so much flavour!! I finished my serve off in the pan with noodles (including 1 chopped birdseye chilli and some spring onions), and the kids had rice. This is going to be so popular!
  • Mel C – This one is going to be really popular! A quick, easy dish to make, on the table in less time than the rice you cook to go with it. Nice balance of flavours, I like that I got the taste of the honey, but it wasn’t overly sweet. Will be easy to substitute chicken for seafood free, or add extra veg or tofu for vegetarian.
  • Sally O – Oh my… absolutely loved this recipe. So quick and delicious. Cooked the conventional method. Added some chilli flakes when sautéing the garlic. Will definitely be making this again and again.

FAQs

Can I use chicken or beef?
Absolutely, you just need to season with a little soy sauce as the prawns are saltier.

Is this freezer friendly?
We recommend changing the protein to chicken if you really want to freeze this recipe. Although the stir fry vegetables will be a bit soggy and no longer crunchy.
