Skinnymixer’s Russian Dressing features in the Basics section of the cookbook SkinnyAmerica. A classic American dressing similar to Thousand Island Dressing, this Russian Dressing will take your Reuben or burger to the next flavour level.

The Russian Dressing is a cookbook exclusive recipe…

No Reuben Sandwich would be complete without Russian Dressing to elevate the Pastrami.

This creamy, sweet slightly spicy dressing can be made in under 10 minutes, but the longer it sits in the fridge – the more the flavour has a chance to develop.

Hot Tip: You can make Thousand Island Dressing by leaving out the Horseradish Cream and Chilli Flakes.

For this recipe in SkinnyAmerica, we use the Dill Pickles in the cookbook but you can easily use store bought Dill Pickles.

We also have the best Creamy Mayonnaise recipe in the Basics section to make the dressing, however when short on time I recommend a good-quality whole egg mayonnaise like Thomy (pictured below). You don’t want the strong flavours of Praise tangy mayonnaise taking over the taste.

You can also make your own Hidden Veg Tomato Ketchup or use your choice of bought Tomato Sauce or Tomato Ketchup.

Dietary Variations

As most people can’t find a dairy-free Horseradish Cream, we have included Hot English Mustard as the substitute in this recipe.

We also have instructions on how to make the dressing Low Fodmap, Low Carb, Paleo and Lower Calorie.

How to Store

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, using commercial mayonnaise (3 days for homemade mayonnaise).

Mayonnaise based sauces do not freeze or defrost well unfortunately.
