The first time I tried Steak au Poivre (Pepper Steak) a French-inspired dish, I knew it was one of the best things I’d ever eaten. If you love pepper, go all in with the peppercorns. Use thinner cuts if you like – just cook them for less time on the BBQ or stovetop.
I love nothing more than a well cooked steak and when you add that delicious creamy pepper sauce cooked with Brandy… well it is genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.
This is for the steak lovers… Steak au Poivre (Pepper Steak) A French bistro classic – juicy steak coated in crushed peppercorns with a silky, creamy pepper sauce that I guarantee you will want to lick off the plate!
What you will need:
- 2 beef eye fillet steaks (250-300g each) – you can use your choice of steak and cook accordingly.
- black peppercorns
- brandy or cognac
- butter
- cornflour
- Dijon mustard
- dried tarragon
- dried thyme
- olive oil
- salt
- shallot or red onion
- thickened cream (for Dairy-free we love Flora thickened plant based cream for this or coconut milk will work too)
- Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free if required)
