- Vegemite or marmite – gluten-free if required.
- Worcestershire sauce – gluten-free if required.
- milk of choice

Tips & Dietary Needs
- No Stock Concentrate? We highly recommend making Nik’s Stock Concentrate for best results! Vegetable stock concentrate will work. You can also replace the water with liquid stock.
- Don’t like peas? You can replace with green beans cut into bite-sized pieces. Carrot and corn would also work in the recipe.
- Dairy-free – Use dairy-free butter and milk.
- Gluten-free – Check that your Vegemite or Marmite is gluten-free.
- Low carb – Replace potato with cauliflower florets and cornflour mixture with xanthan gum sprinkled in.
- Go vegetarian – Replace mince with 2 tins drained lentils and 1 tin drained butter beans. Use vegetable stock concentrate.
- Low Fodmap – Replace onion powder with dried chives, garlic powder with garlic infused olive oil and onion with leek (green part only). Use compliant stock concentrate.
How to Cook
- First we make the sausage mixture from scratch using mince.
- Then we make the gravy with the potatoes steaming above the gravy, using layered cooking.
- Add small spoonfuls of sausage mince mixture into the baking dish to resemble sausage chunks.
- Sprinkle onion over the sausage and cook in the oven.
- Add the peas and pour over gravy.
- Mash the potatoes and spoon over the mince and gravy.
- Sprinkle with cheese if desired and bake.
- Full recipe instructions and measurements can be found in the Dinners 4 cookbook.
How to Serve
Serve in a bowl with a fork and spoon or serve on a plate with a simple green side salad.

From the Testing Team
- Krisha G – Oh my gosh!! Why the hell did i doubt this. Cooked tonight. Was worried as myself and the kids dislike a cottage pie type dish. But absolutely smashing
- Mark R – This is even better thawed and reheated in the air fryer omg the crisp!
- Jess A – Kids requested this again lol fair to say they love it.
- Kate Y – This was a huge winner for the family. Reheated well for my dinner at work. I didn’t include peas as that would’ve been an immediate deal breaker for my kids. It was all gone when I got home.
- Tanya H – Bloody flavourful and just amazing! Beef mince as one of us doesnt eat pork. Low carb variation but slightly rogue as I didn’t quite have enough cauliflower so added a few frozen broccoli florets. It was low carb but I still added some peas as I wanted the whole bangers and mash feel!
