Dietary & Recipe Variations
One of the things we love about Skinnymixers recipes is how easy they are to adapt. Honey Soy Edamame includes the following variations in SkinnyAsia 2:
LOW CARB
Replace the honey with a compliant sweetener, or simply leave it out.
SUPER SKINNY
Omit the sesame oil.
LOW FODMAP
Omit the garlic and replace half of the butter with garlic-infused olive oil. Replace the honey with maple syrup.
HALVED / DOUBLED
Want a smaller snack or feeding a crowd? This recipe can be halved or doubled using the conventional method.
How to Eat Edamame
If you’ve never eaten edamame in the pod before, don’t eat the outside pod!
Pick up a pod and lightly squeeze or pull the beans out with your teeth, enjoying all that honey soy flavour coating the outside as you go.
Pop an empty bowl on the table for everyone to discard their pods. It’s messy, hands-on and perfect for sharing.
Make It a Japanese-Inspired Feast
Honey Soy Edamame is just one of the Japanese-inspired recipes you’ll find in SkinnyAsia 2.
Pair it with Karaage Chicken, Japanese Potato Salad, Hokkaido Milk Bread with Tamago Sando Filling, Teriyaki Beef Mince Rice Bowls, Japanese Mince Curry, Curry Udon Noodle Soup or Yakiniku Pork Belly Skewers.
And don’t forget an Iced Matcha Latte with Strawberry Cold Foam!

From the Testing Team
- Deb Dean – These are delicious. I did a half serve on stove top in a saucepan. I plated the beans and it took less than a minute to return the sauce to the stove top thicken it down to a caramel honey soy to drizzle over top then salted.
- Nicole K – Oh man. So so tasty and moreish. Perfect bar snack. I soaked them in warm water until they were thawed so they were piping hot. My kids poured the sauce over their rice and ate it up
- Angie Gj – Made the beans tonight and served as a side dish with Chinese Honey Chicken & rice. They tasted delicious. Used Hanabi brand from Coles.
- Amada E – Seriously YUM!!!! Miss teen is pissed I made these when she was at work
The only suggestion I’d make is to keep some of the sauce to put into a dipping bowl, as it all went to the bottom of the big bowl
So so good!!! - Julie H – Not something I would normally make but so bloody glad I did. We are sitting watching the Supercars having a nibble

- Kate B – I ate the whole bowl for dinner… don’t judge me!
- Betty W – These are bloody delicious
