French Fries

Sharing is caring!

Skinnymixer’s French Fries features in the Sides section of the cookbook SkinnyAmerica.

We couldn’t have a SkinnyAmerica cookbook without French Fries…

There were a couple of must-have recipes we felt our new cookbook SkinnyAmerica had to have, one of them was French Fries to go with the Ultimate Cheeseburger!

Now we definitely didn’t reinvent the French Fry for this recipe, it is just sharing how we cook them in the Skinnymixers Kitchen to try and keep the calories down without deep-frying.

I love them cooked like this, so I thought we would share the recipe below with the community as our free recipe for the week.

We have cooking methods in the book for the air fryer and fan-forced oven, plus dietary variations for low carb and paleo.

If you don’t have the SkinnyAmerica Cookbook yet for the Everything Salt, our Chicken Salt is equally as delicious!

Equipment

  • Oven or airfryer
  • baking paper
  • large bowl
  • tea towel

Ingredients

  • 500 g potatoes - russett
  • 1 tsp Everything Salt or Chicken Salt
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

Instructions

Preparing French Fries

  • Use a French Fry cutter to slice the potatoes or cut manually into thin sticks.
  • Put into a large bowl and cover them with cold water, ensuring they are completely submerged. Soak for 1 hr or overnight.
  • Drain the fries and lay them flat on a tea towel and pat dry. It is important to really dry them so they don’t steam.
  • Add fries to a bowl and coat well with oil.

To cook

    Air Fryer

    • Preheat air fryer to 190°C or 375°F. For crispy fries, cook in 2 batches in a single layer.
    • Cook fries for 10 min, shake well and cook for a further 5 min. Shake and cook in 1 min increments until cooked to your liking. Season and serve.

    Oven

    • Preheat fan-forced oven to 200°C or 390°F. Line a metal baking tray with baking paper.
    • Spread fries in a single layer and cook for 10 min.
    • Flip fries and cook for a further 10–20 min until cooked to your liking. Season and serve.

    Serve with the Ultimate Cheeseburger

      Notes

Low Carb: Replace with turnips and swede.
Super Skinny: Use olive oil spray to lightly coat fries.
Paleo: Replace potato with sweet potato.
Halved/Doubled: This recipe can be halved or doubled. To double, make sure you are cooking in batches.
