Raw Spiced Rum Balls Thermomix

What can I say? I LOVE this Raw Spiced Rum Balls Thermomix recipe. They’re crazy yummy and way healthier than traditional rum balls. If you’re trying to stay skinny this Christmas, but want something relatively guilt free on the table to enjoy – these are for you.

I recommend using Kraken or a vanilla based spiced rum for them, and make them the night before so the flavours have time to develop.

I hope you enjoy my balls.

Ingredients

  • 12 medjool dates - pitted
  • 50 g sultanas
  • 50 g spiced rum
  • 20 g orange juice
  • 200 g raw almonds
  • 90 g dessicated coconut - plus extra for decorating
  • 40 g coconut oil
  • 10 g raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla paste/essence
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • Add dates, sultanas, rum and orange juice to an airtight container for 1 hour to soak. Shake periodically.
  • Add all ingredients to mixer bowl, blend 15 sec/speed 8 using spatula to combine.
  • Use spatula to redistribute ingredients, and blend for another 15 sec/speed 8/MC on.
  • Shape into walnut sized balls and coat with desiccated coconut.
  • Refrigerate overnight for best flavor.

Notes

Makes ~30 walnut sized rum balls
You can use dark rum if you prefer, or substitute the rum with orange juice for a non alcoholic version
I highly recommend you make these at least the night before, for the flavors to develop - they taste very strong to begin with but once the alcohol has a chance to develop it lessens.

  1. So…doable if I only have southern comfort, Bundaberg and apple and blackcurrent juice?!? Not sure what to do hahaha, last minute Christmas gifts!

  2. Amazing recipe yet again from Skinnymixers. My husband is vegan so it was fantastic to find this healthy sub for an xmas favourite that he can also enjoy!

  3. Yumm! Thanks for the great healthy alternative for rum balls.
I used half half almond and cashews as I ran out of almonds and they turned out fantastic.
    I’ll definitely make them again.

  4. These are amazing. So delicious. Almost impossible to keep for very long even when hidden at the back of the fridge from prying eyes and hands! Another winning recipe Nik, thank you!

  5. So I made these last night and eeeek, I had no rum, orange juice or almonds so I replaced above with contreau and cashews and OMG! I highly recommend these lovely healthy alcoholic balls 😉

  6. These were so close in flavour to my Grandma’s rumballs minus all the extra calories. Great recipe! Thank you 🙂

  7. I’ve made a big batch of the spiced rum balls for fathers day but at this rate there will be none left! They are divine! And like Nik suggests leave them a night for the flavours to develop. I just have to ensure there is an endless supply in the freezer.

    1. It’s a type of rum – pretty sure Captain Morgan is a spiced rum (could be wrong though, rum isn’t my drink!) The staff at the bottleo should be able to help you 🙁

  8. I made these for Christmas gifts and found I had to make them twice more as my husband and friends kept eating them. They are SO good!

  9. I love these rum balls. They taste amazing! The only problem is it’s hard to stop at one, they are that good. Thanks Nikalene!

  10. Delicious! My kids loved the rum free version, hubby loved the rum. I froze them & they were even better straight from the freezer.

  11. I soaked the dates & saltanas 3 days before I needed to make these. W O W amazeballs! thanks for sharing a great recipe!

  12. I don’t have any medjool dates left (the 2yr old got hold of them!), can I used the dried dates from the supermarket so I don’t have to go back to the shops today?

    1. You can for sure Terri, but you may need to soak them a little longer… im not sure if there is enough liquid in the original soaking stage to reconstitute them! Give it a go and let me know 🙂 xx
