THMII: Family Chunky Bolognese with Hidden Veg

One of the first things I made in my thermal cooker was a bolognese recipe and neither in family could enjoy the texture. This prompted me to think about how to achieve a more traditional bolognese texture without having to resort to less time effective traditional cooking methods. This has been a popular Skinnymixers recipe for many years now because it is simple but tasty and can be served many different ways. This recipe is a family inspired version with a bigger serve and hidden veg that the kids definitely won’t be aware of.

I make this receipe so often, I no longer need to read the recipe. It is extremely delicious, and a regular meal for us, including my picky 7 year old. I generally pop it in to individual serves in zip lock bags for the freezer. Such a quick, healthy meal to heat up and pop on some fresh pasta! An absolute winner 🙂

    1. Hi, you can either purchase it from the supermarket or there is a Skinnymixer’s Italian Spice Mix recipe in The Healthy Mix

I admit I was a little skeptical as we haven’t liked other mince dishes that are steamed, but this was awesome! Made enough for 2 meals, plus have extra sauce leftover for a quick stovetop version. We are loving all your recipes Nik!

  3. A family favourite. I convert for stovetop of Bellini Supercook, both work well. Often freeze half for another night ant use with the carbonara to make lasagne. Highly recommend.

  5. Nice simple dinner that everyone enjoyed. Cooking the 1kg of mince in the varoma is a great idea to get 8 serves out of one cook. Will try to add even more veggies next time as there wasn’t actually much in the recipe

  6. Easy recipe and the meat turned out great considering it wasn’t cooked in the conventional way.
Was cooked by the final time.
I added carrot, capsicum and spinach and you couldn’t even see green.
Also made enough for 6 hearty meals.

  7. Very easy, full of flavour, and enough leftovers to freeze for another night. Or there would be if I’d frozen it before the family noticed there were leftovers 😉
