Tips & Dietary Needs
- Protein swap – This is a vegetarian dish, however it goes especially well with the Satay Chicken Rissoles or with a fried egg on top. Also delicious with salmon fillets or shredded chicken.
- No Chicken Stock Concentrate? We highly recommend making Niks Chicken Stock Concentrate for best results! Vegetable stock concentrate will work. You can also replace the water with liquid stock.
- Don’t like wombok ? That’s ok, feel free to use zucchini noodles or just use carrot.
- Dairy-free – use dairy-free butter.
- Gluten-free – use rice noodles.
- Low carb/Paleo– Use compliant noodles or replace noodles with additional wombok and replace carrot with your choice of shiitake mushrooms, capsicum, zucchini or green beans. Use compliant sweeteners. Use the Vegetarian Oyster Sauce recipe from the website.
- Lower calorie – Halve butter if desired. Replace half the noodles with zucchini noodles.
- Low Fodmap – Replace garlic with fresh ginger, thinly sliced. Replace half the butter with garlic infused olive oil. Use the Vegetarian Oyster Sauce recipe from the website. Use gluten-free noodles.
- Spice Level – You can increase the spice level of these noodles easily.
- What should i do with wombok? Make the Spring Roll Bowl, add to your Vietnamese Chicken Pho or Thai Chicken Laksa.

From the Testing Team
- Nicole L – OMG! These are amazing! Served with salmon fillets on the top and some spring onion!! So good, quick & easy!
- Theresa M – Finally jumped on the band wagon! Delicious! Served the sauce over rice for my GF Daughter but have to say flavour is fabulous!
- Erica W – Hyperfixation lunch at the moment. Added extra crunchy chilli oil and sesame seeds. Love this recipe!
- Kerry F – Wok cooked…needed the spoon of noodle water to loosen. I didn’t mind them as is but liked them even more once I added msg & white pepper
I did have some toasted sesame seeds to sprinkle but I left them on the kitchen bench.
- Nicole K – Another winning dish for the kids even with the chilli flakes. We had for dinner with some chicken schnitzels.
- Kellie S – Cooked this on Thursday night for my Mum and Dad, I added one fillet of Char Sui Pork and some broccoli. So much food! It was very tasty though! I think it could have done with a touch more chilli flakes.
- Renee H – Just another comment regarding this recipe. Made it for dinner tonight and cooked chicken in the stove. My 14 year old said this would have to be his top 5 of recipes. This boy never ate anything as a kid and is slowly starting to eat everything. This will definitely be on rotation a lot as it’s so easy and simple to make.
- Linda B – This dish was surprisingly rich and filling, probably due to the noodles that I don’t often eat. I made it for lunch today and it was so tasty that it didn’t even need to have anything else with it. Personally, I think I’ll try it with lighter rice noodles next time.
- Paula M – Freaking delicious! This will definitely become a regular in this house. I’d like to add a protein to the conventional adaption and cook it in the wok before tossing in the noodles, veges and sauce to be a more complete super quick meal. I’d do chicken but I could imagine mixed seafood would be good as well.
