Course: Spices
Cuisine: Mexican
Servings: 6
Calories: 25kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp dried chilli flakes - (more or less to taste)
  • 1 tsp peppercorns
  • 2 tsp dried onion powder
  • 2 tsp dried garlic powder
  • 2 tsp rock salt
  • 1 Tbsp dried oregano flakes
  • 1 Tbsp dried sweet paprika
  • 1 Tbsp dried marjoram - optional
  • 1 Tbsp dried ground cumin
  • 1 Tbsp dried ground coriander

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to mixer bowl.
  • Mill for 30 sec/speed 9/MC on.

Notes

Makes a small jar.
Use 2 tablespoons per 500 g or 17.6 oz meat.
You can increase the chilli flake component for more heat, but I prefer to leave it more mild so I can add extra chilli to dishes as required 🙂
Low Fodmap: Omit garlic powder and onion powder. Reduce salt to 1 1/2 tsp.

  1. This is a game changer! I didn’t have Marjoram but still tasted fantastic… no more store bought taco mix… 😍

  2. So Delicious, so much nicer than the supermarket spice.. My sons tells me I’m the best cook in the world lmao.. Well done.. nice flavor x

  3. Amazing taste!! So Much more flavour than the store bought packet mix and no preservatives!!!! ( I left out the chilli as my boys don’t like spice yet )

  4. Made tacos tonight with the skinnymixers spice mix absolutely fantastic perfect amount of spice for a delicious taco wothout the pasty after taste of store brought alternatives.

  5. Just madey 2nd double batch.
    It’s awesome!

We have even made a permanent switch from tacos to a similar meal using this mix instead!

    Thanking you! 😀

    1. Haha, I hope it’s nice to look and see how regulary I make a double batch of this! 😛 Thanks again Nik!

  6. Another awesome dinner Nik! Had some chicken that needed using up and had no idea what I was going to cook. Found some cauli in the bottom of the fridge and decided to give this a go. Only had 500g cauli, so adjusted all the other ingredients accordingly and it really is delicious! Might just go have a second bowl now 😜… Thanks again Nik!

  7. Impressed! I have to admit I wasn’t completely sold on this mix as I have tried others in the past and they were never as good as the packet stuff. This is the one! I have now made a double batch and will be using this instead of the packet from now on. So authentic and the right balance of spices for taco mince.

  8. I made this mix last week, and used it last night in our tacos. Response from DH -“this is far better than any packet mix!”
I have made mexican from scratch before, but this is definately the best blend by far for balance of flavour and spice. Thanks again Nic!

  9. Wham Bam Thank You Mam!
    Wham it into TM
    Bam and it’s done!!

Great spice mix used in taco mince and got great reviews from the kids.

Now it’s on the list for Xmas Gift giving

  10. We try and follow a LCHF diet in our household and this recipe is just totally fantastic. I have tried many other recipes for a taco seasoning mix from the internet and none of them were right. We use taco mince all the time as a quick dinner or smaller portions for a snack and until now I have had to buy the Old ElPaso brand as my family far prefers it….but it has wheat and sugar in it, so up until now it’s been a necessary evil. NO MORE!!!! This recipe tastes EXACTLY the same as the branded version without the wheat and sugar! Thank you so much 🙂 This is a staple in my house now!

  11. Love this spice mix…. Use it always now in place of “Taco Seasoning”. Always double the mix. I keep this in the pantry to add a little yum to any bland dish. As always a huge “Thanks Nik” for this recipe !

  12. This is a staple in my spice cupboard and I make double batches and still run out all of the time! I now make all of my Mexican dishes from scratch.
