Homemade baked beans are one of my favourite foods when I eat breakfast out, and I have wanted to make my own baked beans Thermomix recipe for a few years now… I think I have definitely nailed this one with the sweet smokey flavour!

I love that this recipe is quick enough that you can make it fresh while frying bacon and eggs and it reheats really well in the microwave. I also plan to do a baked egg recipe using these as soon as possible. You can also opt to omit the chorizo for a vegetarian or vegan version.

Love Nik xx

Course: Breakfast
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 23 minutes
Total Time: 28 minutes
Servings: 6
Calories: 284kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 medium brown onion - quartered
  • 3 cloves of garlic - peeled
  • 20 g olive oil
  • 150 g cured chorizo - thinly sliced into bite sized pieces
  • 400 g tin chopped tomato - I used ardmona brand
  • 200 g water
  • 50 g tomato paste
  • 20 g worcestershire sauce - I use gluten free
  • 20 g maple syrup - optional for low sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 800 g tin cannellini beans - drained and rinsed

Instructions

  • Add onion and garlic to mixer bowl, chop for 3 sec/speed 6/MC on. Scrape bowl down.
  • Add oil and cook for 5 min/100°C or 212°F/speed 1/MC off.
  • Add remaining ingredients, except for beans, and cook for 15 min/steaming temp/speed 1/MC off. Put the simmering basket over the hole to avoid making a mess of your kitchen.
  • Add the rinsed beans and cook for a further 3 min/100°C or 212°F/speed 1/MC off. Put the simmering basket over the hole to avoid making a mess of your kitchen.

Add 200g or 7.1 oz of small cauliflower florets or mushrooms / zucchini instead of the beans and cook for 5 mins.

Absolutely delicious! I am not a Chorizo fan so omitted it all together and it was still amazing. Definitely be making again.

So easy and delicous. I never liked canned baked bean so this is fantastic. Have also made it with speck (prefer to chorizo) but the best so far… a piece of triple smoked bacon from the deli – oh my! Prefer the texture and flavour is fab. I just cut into small dice and put in with the onion and garlic cooking.

Amazing! Love this recipe, made it twice in two days!

When omitting beans for cauliflower, would you add the cauliflower at the same time as your would normally add beans? If so, would that be long enough for the cauliflower to cook?

Very easy and so tasty, I’m not a fan of Smokey flavors but this was quite subtle, really good. Will definitely be making it again 👍

  5. This is still a firm family favourite even after many repeats. A great “quick and easy” meal for sport nights, sick days and everything in between. We love it with chorizo!

This recipe is awesome family love love LOVE it. I use bacon instead of chiorizo due to kids taste but still great

  6. So tasty. I use bacon as I keep forgetting to get chorizo. Also I forgot to add water today and they were still perfect. My 4yr old requested them today which I love. Highly recommend that you try them

  7. I made this today as part of Father’s Day Brekky. I served them with toasted sour dough, bacon and spinach, rocket, feta and avocado drizzled with vino cotto. It was a winner all around. Thanks Nic!

  8. YUM! This recipe made a lot. Will be making a batch every other week I think as baked beans are a staple weekend breakfast component in our household. Thanks for sharing.

  9. So so yummy. My 15 month old wouldn’t eat baked beans from a can but she ate these. Winning. Sorry if this question has already been asked but do these freeze OK?

  10. I will never buy baked beans in a tin again. These are sensational. I poach an egg and put on top as well.
