Make your own Cinnabon inspired Cinnamon Buns with our Healthy Cream Cheese Frosting

Sharing is caring!

skinnymixer’s Healthy Cream Cheese Frosting is the perfect frosting to make your own healthier Cinnabon-inspired Hot Cross Cinnamon Buns at home!

Have you given our amazing Hot Cross Buns a go? They even have one of the best gluten-free variations according to our coeliac community!

The last few weeks my dear friend has been going on and on about the Cinnabon stuffed hot cross buns from Woolworths – so I thought we could make a Healthy Cream Cheese Frosting and make our own gluten-free friendly version!

To Make Cinnabon Inspired Cinnamon Buns

  1. Make the Hot Cross Buns but replace the currants with 1 tsp ground cinnamon. You can skip the cross too! This will be enough frosting for 2 batches (12) of Hot Cross Buns.
  2. Instead of adding the cross, I sprinkled with cinnamon sugar before baking – 2 tsp white sugar mixed with 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  3. Once cooled, we top with a generous amount of this Healthy Cream Cheese Frosting when ready to eat!
  4. Best served fresh – store the frosting in the fridge and the buns are best fresh within 1-2 days.

Ideal for Health-Conscious Bakers

This healthy cream cheese frosting is perfect for those seeking a lighter alternative to traditional frostings. Made with cream cheese, Greek yogurt, and a touch of maple syrup, it offers a creamy texture and a subtle sweetness without the need for powdered sugar or butter.

It’s an excellent choice for gluten-free, low-carb, or low-sugar diets, making it suitable for a variety of dietary preferences. Whether you’re topping carrot cake, banana bread, or your favourite cupcakes, this frosting provides a healthier option without compromising on taste.

For a Firmer Frosting

To make a firmer frosting, replace the maple syrup with 100g of icing sugar. This will produce a more traditional cream cheese frosting.
