Skinnymixers Red Lentil Dahl Thermomix

With everything happening in the World I thought it was a good time to blog my favourite super budget friendly, pantry staple Thermomix recipe – Red Lentil Dahl.

Dahl is a hearty, super healthy vegetarian dish that is packed full of protein but easy on the budget.

You can serve this Red Lentil Dahl as a main with steamed rice or Garlic, Cheese & Spinach Naan.

It also makes a delicious side dish to serve with your favourite Butter Chicken or Curry.

There is no need to soak the split red lentils overnight & you can adjust the chilli to taste.

A massive thank you to Tennielle Barron for the amazing photo of the Dahl.

Lailah’s Garlic, Cheese & Spinach Naan really is the best Thermomix Naan recipe and goes perfectly with curries from ‘A Little Taste of India’

Red Lentil Dahl Thermomix

  1. This was absolutely incredible! So much flavour, great balance! I love that it is healthy, cheap and very easy to make. Served it with fresh coriander, a dollop of plain yoghurt and some paratha. Probably ate around 3 servings myself and that’s not because it wasn’t filling 😅 my kids liked it, although it was probably a touch too spicy for them. Will definitely make this again and again!

  2. I always guess the conversion for using ginger powder as I rarely have fresh ginger- does anyone know what it should be?

    1. Hi Kelly – something I recently learned from TikTok is that you can freeze ginger and then grate it from frozen. Works really well and keeps for quite a while

Love this recipe. It’s so flavourful, easy and healthy. Freezes really well too. I love serving it with the SM Jeweled Coconut Rice and naan bread.

  4. Can I substitute dried lentils for tinned and how many grams would I need to reduce the water by? I’m coeliac and dried lentils always have contamination warnings for those with autoimmune issues. Thanks!

Super easy and delicious. I didn’t have any tinned tomatoes so I used 2 heaped tbs of tomato paste that I put in with spices to cook off. And I added a fresh tomato in with the vegetables. I see this becoming a regular recipe in this house. So good!!

  5. Made this today for donner. OMG it was to die for. I will definitely be making it again even though I am the only one in the house that ate it. But it was so quick and easy it was no big deal and I have dinner for the next few nights. I used the veggie stock paste as that is all I had as added extra chilli as I like it hot. Served it with Naan bread.

Thanks Nikalene… huge success… I love dhal and this is a great version. I even got my veggie-phobic daughter to have some, and she gave me a thumbs up! So I am going to try and make a version that has carrots and sweet potato in it. The consistency may end up more like mash, or hommus… however, this may be great to spread on wraps, for a veggie wrap school box lunch. I’ll let you know how it goes!

  7. So good! I added more spices and used veggie stock, as its all I had made but was so excited with the result and adding to my regular cooking list x

Delicious! I made this for a friend who is sick at the moment, and immediately went out and bought more ingredients to make some for myself. Kicking myself for not trying this recipe sooner!

Such a delicious meal on it’s own. We like to give meat a break occasionally, and this never fails to satisfy. Add some corn chips for a fake away!!

This is just beautiful. Delicious, healthy and the perfect blend, not too liquid and not too thick. The best thermomix lentil dahl I have ever cooked. Thank you SM team.

Oh wow this is yummy! So easy to cook and full of flavour, will definitely become a regular in my house

      1. I used to make this a lot and now I can’t eat tomato so what would anyone suggest to put in as a replacement for the tomato please? TIA

Red lentils don’t need pre-soaking, which is why they’re so great for quick, tasty, nutritious meals like this. I adore Dahl and make this regularly 😋
