Cuisine: Mexican
Servings: 6
Calories: 25kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp dried chilli flakes - (more or less to taste)
  • 1 tsp peppercorns
  • 2 tsp dried onion powder
  • 2 tsp dried garlic powder
  • 2 tsp rock salt
  • 1 Tbsp dried oregano flakes
  • 1 Tbsp dried sweet paprika
  • 1 Tbsp dried marjoram - optional
  • 1 Tbsp dried ground cumin
  • 1 Tbsp dried ground coriander

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to mixer bowl.
  • Mill for 30 sec/speed 9/MC on.

Notes

Makes a small jar.
Use 2 tablespoons per 500 g or 17.6 oz meat.
You can increase the chilli flake component for more heat, but I prefer to leave it more mild so I can add extra chilli to dishes as required 🙂
Low Fodmap: Omit garlic powder and onion powder. Reduce salt to 1 1/2 tsp.

  1. Hi, just looking in the nutrition list for the Mexican spice mix and am wondering why there would be 1.3gms of sugar per tblsp?

  2. What a great recipe! As it’s gluten free it’s awesome to use instead of the packet mix for my GF friends. I also make it and bag as gifts for my Xmas hampers and it’s always a hit- thanks Nic for another fabulous recipe.

  3. Made this spice mix to coat fish with (with some corn flour). It made the most delicious fish tacos. I served it with the skinnymixers pita (rolled them out very thin) and mango salad.

  4. So I decided it was time to try this. Thought I may as well make a double batch, well just because I could.
Was halfway through measuring and realised the first two ingredients were teaspoons not tablespoons. Oops that’s a lot of chilli. Didn’t want to throw out what I had measured so I now have 3 jars of taco mix. Luckily we like tacos.

  5. This Mexican spice mix is the bomb!!! 1 million times better than the sachets from the supermarket that are full on sugar. This is a pantry staple in this house!!!

  6. I always have this in the cupboard. Next time I am making a double batch because we go through it so often.

  7. Amazing! I use this in homemade tacos & nacho’s. Have also used on top of pizza & I used it as a rub on some brisket we cooked on the Weber and it was sooooooo good. Definitely recommend making a double batch.
