Sharing is caring!

Meat pies are one of my favourite cheeky foods, I have very fond memories of getting a meat pie with my Dad after watching the races as a child. Unfortunately, the pastry doesn’t like me – but this is a great way to get the taste of a perfect Thermomix Australian Meat Pie without the pastry – or with if you like 😉

Here in South Australia we have a tradition of enjoying a Meat Pie Floater, which is a pie served floating in pea soup – top a pie this Australia Day with my Mushy Peas for a reverse pie floater and celebrate this great country!

This Thermomix Aussie Meat Pie Filling is your ultimate shortcut to homemade pie night, Skinnymixers style! Rich, savoury and packed full of traditional flavour, this family-friendly recipe brings all the nostalgia of a classic bakery meat pie—without the nasties.

Made with everyday ingredients and pantry staples, this versatile filling is perfect for classic meat pies, party pies, or even loaded baked potatoes and pastry-free bowls. Naturally gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free, with easy options for paleo and low-carb lifestyles—it’s a budget-friendly, freezer-friendly winner for busy weeknights or weekend batch cooking.

Whether you go full Aussie with flaky pastry or keep it light and low-fuss, this hearty filling will have the whole family coming back for seconds. Don’t forget to tag your pie creations and let us know your favourite way to serve it!

Want to add extra flavour?

Sometimes when you make the move away from packet mixes and MSG, it can be difficult to adjust. It is important to use our Beef Stock Concentrate for maximum flavour.

Here are some suggestions from the community for adjusting this recipe to taste. Personally I love it just the way it is, but everyone has different tastes!

  • Use Vegemite or Worcestershire Sauce – Add a teaspoon of Vegemite or a splash of Worcestershire sauce for an extra umami hit.

  • Add Gravy Powder – Stir in a spoonful of traditional gravy powder (gluten-free if needed) to deepen the savoury flavour.

  • Add Dried Porcini Powder – stir in a spoonful at Step 3.
  • Include Tomato Paste – A tablespoon of tomato paste helps add richness and balance.

  • Dash of Balsamic Vinegar – A little balsamic adds depth and a subtle sweetness.

  • Herbs & Spices – Add a pinch of dried thyme, rosemary or  smoked paprika.

How to Serve the Aussie Meat Pie Filling

  1. As a pie with pastry. I like to put shortcrust pastry on the bottom and puff pastry on the top. I have a Sunbeam Deep Pie Maker
  2. In a ramekin topped with mashed potatoes or Silky Sweet Potato Mash.
  3. With some Mushy Peas – these ones are delicious!
